Release Description: Valkyria Chronicles combines strategy elements of conventional tactical role playing games with real-time action sequences. The game is set in a fictitious continent reminiscent of 1930s, Europe divided in two and ruled by the Empire and the Federation. The Empire has set its sights on invading a small neutral country called Gallia, which is situated in the middle of the two great empires. The game follows a hero named Welkin and his fellow soldiers of the Federation's 7th Platoon that are fighting against the Empire, who is intent on unifying the continent under its power. Description: Though it may not have been the most high-profile of releases, Sega's tactical role-playing game Valkyria Chronicles turned out to be one of the top-rated games released for Sony's PlayStation 3 in 2008. Today, Sega announced plans to reprise that effort on the PSP, saying Valkyria Chronicles 2 will be available for Sony's portable during the summer of 2010. Valkyria Chronicles 2 will pick up two years after the events of the original game, which saw the fictional country of Gallia sandwiched between two warring superpowers. The sequel will follow a group of raw Gallian Military Academy cadets, who are caught up in a civil war after the Gallian Revolutionary Army attempts a coup on the standing government.Sega plans to scale down the same engine that powered the original Valkyria Chronicles on the PS3 for use on the PSP. As such, the sequel will maintain the original's distinctive illustrated look, offering 20 all-new environments and "hundreds" of missions to complete. Sega will also be tinkering with the game's turn-based battle system, giving players the ability to navigate the environment in real-time during battles.
