Season 5, Episode 03 – “Frightened to Death”
An elderly man is found dead in his home amid signs of forced entry and a brutal attack. West Midlands Police must identify when and how he died in a bid to track down his killer.
West Midlands Police are called when concerned neighbours report an elderly man is not responding to them at his home near Birmingham. Arriving on scene, they find harrowing evidence of forced entry to the house and discover his body face down on the living room floor. From his injuries, it is clear the man was restrained with telephone cable and endured a terrifying attack before being left to die. As his body is removed for post-mortem to establish the exact cause of death, crime scene co-ordinator Jo Ward and homicide detective Tom Lyons launch a murder enquiry and brief their investigating team.

Season 5, Episode 02 – “A Deadly Friendship”
Paramedics are called to a body in the bedroom of a Birmingham house and when they discover blood and signs of violence in other parts of the house, police launch a murder investigation. The victim is found to have suffered a brutal attack with more than 100 injuries and died from trauma to the head. With a violent killer on the loose, detectives launch door-to-door inquiries and soon learn about a man who asked some else to call for an ambulance. Could he be a key witness – or the chief suspect?

West Midlands Police work to identify who is responsible for a major fire that has burned a factory in Birmingham to the ground. Fire investigator Luke Beckett is deployed to open the case before vital evidence is destroyed by the blaze, but after searching the wreckage, the cause is still a mystery. With no natural sources of ignition, Luke concludes the fire was started deliberately and, in a stroke of luck, the factory’s CCTV room is left intact after the fire.

Season 3, Episode 02 – “Gold Heist”
At midday on a busy high street in Birmingham, a group of armed robbers drive a truck into a jewellery shop, stealing £300,000 worth of gold. They escape in less than 60 seconds. Forensic scene investigator Drew Birtles is dispatched to the jewellery shop to recover any forensic clues which could help identify the robbers.

The investigation becomes more challenging when no real forensic evidence is found at the crime scene and the robbers switch cars – leaving the trail to go cold.

Suspects are identified, and investigators hope that forensic evidence from the cars could provide the vital information needed to help solve the case and bring down the thieves.
