Simon looks back 3,000 years ago when there was an emergence of a tribal group of people in a contested land and their book, the Hebrew Bible, a chronicle of their stormy relationship with a faceless, formless, jealous God. It is loyalty to this ‘God of Words’ that has defined the identity of the ancient Jews.
