Stephen goes down below the Thames into the bowels of Tower Bridge where he meets the Bridge Master, who gives him the task of raising the bridge. Stephen witnesses high drama when he sees dealers screaming and shouting at each other at the London Metal Exchange. He also meet the City Beadles, who are making their way to The Guildhall for a silent ceremony to mark the inauguration of the new lord mayor.
