The Berlin trickster Maik Schäfer (Daniel Donskoy) exchanges his false conductor's uniform for a cassock while fleeing the police. Since the resolute parish housekeeper Maria (Susi Banzhaf) then mistakes him for the expected new priest, the unbaptized criminal is unintentionally appointed the spiritual leader of the small-town parish of Läuterberg.
Schäfer acts very skilfully and quickly feels comfortable in his new role as the comforter of the soul, who can go into hiding away from the hustle and bustle of the big city and stop his criminal activities for the time being. And when his warning words aren't enough, he occasionally helps out with unorthodox actions that then reveal his true identity.
Church choir director Eva Hellwarth (Bettina Burchard), with whom the wrong pastor falls in love, is particularly risky for "Sankt Maik". Because Eva works for the police and her criminal instinct brings forSchäfer, of course, had big problems with himself.
